Jacquemus Chiquito: The Micro Bag Era

You might not remember a time before micro bags, but it has definitely only gained traction in the last few years. We would like to think it was Jacquemus’ iconic Chiquito bag that catapulted fashion towards micro and nano sized bags.

Remember when the Chiquito first launched in 2017 in a ‘normal’ size, the disproportionately large top handle seemed like an awkward limb of the bag. The bag didn’t get much recognition, until he decided to make a smaller version in 2019, this smaller version was not the most practical but you were still able to fit in cards and cash, maybe if your lipstick is small enough, that too.

This mini version took off like a rocket and soon you saw everyone wearing one of these as an accessory, because come on let’s be real they weren’t really storage vessels, they really just tied your outfits together. That was the beginning of how our bags got smaller and smaller. Jacquemus then further cemented this trend by launching the smallest chiquito you would ever see; it didn’t even fit your airpods case. Well, it fits your airpods, so I guess there is some use to it.

From there you see many brands picking up this trend, launching mini versions of their iconic bag styles, like the mini Fendi Baguettes or the Micro Dior Bags. Chanel really went and said “I got this”  because they launched a full kit of their iconic micro sized designs in a case? It was literally calling the names of any bag fanatic. Bringing us here, to now where we are at the peak of this trend and it’ll probably stay on for a couple of years.

Do we question the practicality of these bags? Sure, but really who are we to say no to a perfect accessory?
