Is Ballet Core still a thing?
We’ve been seeing the rise of Ballet core over the last 2 seasons, but this latest fashion week. It’s been repeatedly showing up in most shows. The romanticisation of ballet apparel to make it a fashion statement underlines that interconnectivity of our culture and fashion.
The whole vision of ballet core is an elevated and extreme femme version of athleisure. With the rise of brands like KNWLS and ottolinger, the idea of showing your feminine curves has never been more prominent. This has definitely contributed to the rise of this aesthetic. Another proponent we find is that ballet core has allowed women to dress comfortably in a feminine manner. The polished ballet look allows them to look put together yet the athleisure element provides them comfort.
Some aspects that we love about ballet core will definitely be the return of ballet flats that actually look like ballet slippers. We love a good ballet flat, but they’re usually quite bland and don’t stand out. What we’ve seen in these shows, these ballet slippers aren’t blending in, they are an important statement.

Of course Miu Miu is at the forefront of this trend. With the ballerinas and ruched up socks mimicking a ballerina’s training outfit repeated throughout their Fall 22 show early this year. Our favourite will have to be the ballerina pumps. They look so dainty.

With a full collection of ballet inspired apparel, Rodarte’s Fall 22 collection showcases the lightweight ballerina outfits from light weight powdery pink knits to chiffon capes and cap sleeved dresses. We love how the brand has melded their classic ethereal vision with ballet to create such a beautiful fairytale collection.

With ballet inspired elements also at the forefront of Sandy Liang’s designs, their latest launch of ballet flats has sold out in record time. Their latest SS23 collection continues on the ballet-core path with nude sheer tights paired with flowy nightdresses and puffy tulle skirts.

With the dancer’s grace and elegance always a vision that women for many decades have wanted to embody, this niche trend is not surprising. It really is quite refreshing to see more attempt to embody the grace of ballerinas through their fashion choices.
