Preppy Goth: Wednesday Addams Effect
If you’ve been seeing Jenna Ortega all over your social media feed and have been wondering why, it’s probably the Wednesday Addams effect. With her latest Netflix release, Wednesday, a roaring success, her press tour outfits have been making its rounds.
In line with her character, Jenna dresses gothic for most of her press appearance, for the Netflix official premiere she even adorned a black veil styled with a crinkled black lace slip dress, fitting for the goth princess that Wednesday is. With the popularity of this series, we predict that Goth Girl Core will soon take to the streets. Inspiring more people to embrace the goth style, from platformed shoes to full black outfits.
Not to say that goth was not prevalent before the show, but when the Wednesday’s wardrobe has been transcended time and been seamlessly adapted to our modern times, it is giving her predecessor’s style a Gen Z update and creating a new generation of Wednesday lovers and giving the millennials a new drama to reminisce about their childhood.
Their ball was full of iconic moments, with their siren wearing a fully sequined halter dress true to her scaly nature and of course, Wednesday’s iconic Alaia dress that has been circulating TikTok with a new track attached. Their friendship snoods also worked off the current crochet trend and have us wanting to find a crochet needle and start making some snoods for our friends. This first season already has us looking forward to the second season.
