Fashion X Culture: Dior Men in Egypt

Dior Men’s latest show in Egypt was nothing short of iconic, with 2 shows happening. One co designed by Tremaine Emory, Denim Tears founder and Supreme’s creative director. This capsule collection was unveiled in the yet to be launched Grand Egyptian Museum. Following this coveted show, the Pre-Fall 2023 menswear collection was shown with lit pyramids as its backdrop.

The monumental milestone for the brand and Egypt as the first show to be held in this location. Some have referenced this to the Fendi show at the Great Wall and the importance of each cannot be diminished. We often see great productions for shows each season but this time, Dior has really outdone themselves with this stellar production for their 75th anniversary.

His year of travelling shows has come to a close in Egypt the land of pharaohs and it was a stunning closure to a banging year for Dior. With paying homage in mind, Jones has included archival elements from Mr Dior’s iconic pieces into his looks. With Dior’s 1956 visit to Egypt, Kim Jones, took inspiration from the ancient Egyptian costumes and created half-kilts with pants which was the recurring look for the show.

He also referenced one of Mr Dior’s iconic dresses, the Junon from FW 1949/50. Look 3 was inspired by Junon with a sequined top overlaid with a sheer chiffon hooded  Jones also incorporated high tech designs in his line-up with 3D printed boots. Other key elements include, the bee-keeper-esque bonet and other iconic Dior house codes like the Cannage and the CD Diamond motif.

With the many blockbusters from Dior Men this year, we are looking forward to when these highly coveted collections hit the boutiques and what other ideas Kim Jones comes up with next year.
