Balenciaga’s Big Reset

Close followers of fashion would know the Balenciaga scandal that rocked the fashion scene in 2022. The $51 million brand was violently removed from its previously unassailable throne, which resulted in a decline in sales and store vandalism. Influencers even went on social media to tear up their own Balenciaga clothes amid the ongoing defamation.

All around the world, Balenciaga was being cancelled which seemed like there’s no way out for the label. Despite the incessant backlash, Balenciaga tackled to reset on March 5th 2023 when Demna, the creative director of Balenciaga, debuted its Fall/ Winter 2023 collection in Paris.

But is the world ready to look past the scandal? Well, Balenciaga sure is.

The news that Balenciaga was even hosting a Fall/ Winter 2023 surfaced on third-party fashion accounts rather than through their official channels.

It is impossible for Balenciaga to operate stealthily as parent company Kering expects results. Even if the crowd is ready or not, the Balenciaga FW23 fashion show was Balenciaga’s call in hitting reset.

Reminiscing the roots of Balenciaga’s couture collections, the FW23 ready-to-wear presentation was no different. Instead of wild graphics, there was a focus on delirious silhouettes that were too austere to irritate anyone but those who regularly mock outlandish runway shows.

Classic Demna themes were repeated in the collection, including floral dresses, form-fitting tracksuits, and ultra-boxy tailoring with absurdly broad shoulders.
