Meghan Markle: Power Casual

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s latest docu series on Netflix has garnered mixed reviews from viewers and we are here for it but only for the fashion. Royalty has always been a huge determinant in how fashion sways since the ancient times, Kate Middleton was a largely influential fashion icon during her debut and the same can be said for Meghan but in her own manner.

Looking at Meghan’s fashion evolution post-Suits and during her princess era, it’s clear she has cultivated a distinct refined style of dress to fit her new title. It has been coined as power casual looks consisting of soft cashmere styled with crisp tailored pants. The idea that they convey a stance of power yet exudes an air of effortlessness hence it feels casual yet powerful at the same time.

It is clear though that Meghan knows her style well and knows her colour palette. She often works with neutrals that compliment her skin tone. Having expressed that she needed to stick to neutrals during her stint within the royal family as she had to avoid clashing with other senior royal family members. She has certainly started to embrace prints and colour in her normal American life.

While she has always had an affinity with neutrals, they seem to have been amplified, especially with beige, camel and taupe. It could be because of her avoidance of conflict but she probably also knew how those colours worked well for her. Coupled with her choice of textures and style, she has cemented a sort of serene yet powerful presence. Could this be a new style for the girl bosses to follow?
